There are an infinite number of ways to construct class. As long as a teacher is intentional and clear, class will flow smoothly.
What you’ve studied up to now is sequencing to a peak pose. Most of my asana classes are constructed in this fashion. Still other classes are constructed based on a peak concept. The concept can be physical or energetic (spiritual). Example classes from Marysia Do Magic App include: ‘Energizing Breath’ and ‘Stretch at Your Desk.’ My classes range from 1-90minutes. I encourage you to use this template for now. That saying ‘learn the rules to break them’ will apply down the line. You are learning a format that provides structure for your classes. Once you feel unwavering in your ability to create a smooth flow, you are free to follow other inspirations. When you do ‘break the rules’ be sure you do so with CLEAR and SPECIFIC INTENTION.
A crescendo or peak can be meditative or/and physical. Yoga classes take the practitioner on a journey where one moment flows into the next seamlessly. The breath, moment and even stillness all build. Once the students hit a climax it’s important to have a gradual easing of energy that enables them to settle back into life’s rhythm with grace. Ending on a peak pose can leave students feeling jittery or discombobulated in some other fashion. Set your students up to continue to feel the yogic flow in their life as they walk out the door.
