From Child’s Pose we move into Reclined Twist to revolve the spine after Backbending and also to enjoy the benefits of twisting in a more passive position. A key benefit of twists is that they massage the internal organs which is known to enhance digestion and detoxification.
Next we move into Figure Four which is an effective and familiar hip stretch. It keeps your students on their backs and offers a big final opening for the body. Due to our modern lifestyle most people have tight hips so it’s important we take time to really stretch them. I recommend holding Figure Four for at least 10 slow breaths so that there is time to ease into the depths of the pose and also to further shift the body into a slower rhythm. Having students count their breaths is helpful because it inherently puts their attention on their breath, which is meditative.
Then we have our lovely yogis give themselves a yummy hug before saying “night, night” to their practice. Savasana is the final pose of the LWU sequence. It is known as Corpse Pose. It’s a death to the practice and an opportunity for the body to absorb the effects of its’ efforts. Savasana can be held for 1-10minutes. After, you may guide your students through either a reclined or seated meditation.
